Men can be some of the hardest people to shop for. If they want it, the likeliest chance is that they’ve already bought it. They’re also not quite as obvious when hinting about what they want for the holidays. So what do we buy them when the time comes to give gifts on Christmas morning? Don’t you worry — I made a list and I checked it twice, with the help of a couple of my guy friends. Here’s ten awesome gift ideas for your man that won’t break the bank.
If your man drinks, you can never go wrong with an alcohol-themed gift for him. For Christmas last year, I bought my boyfriend his favorite whisky alongside a pair of glasses and a matching decanter with his last name engraved into them. His face on Christmas morning was like that of a child — free booze!
Anything alcohol-related would make a great gift for the man in your life. I personally love this at-home craft beer brewing kit that you can find on Amazon. It definitely doesn’t break the bank, it’s unique, and it will keep your man busy for a while. If you don’t want to just buy beer, there are plenty of accessories he might appreciate like these socks.
2. A Subscription Box
Subscription boxes are the gift that keeps on giving. That’s why I got my boyfriend a 3-month subscription to Lucky Tackle Box for his birthday. I was able to choose his type of box and each month he received personalized baits for bass fishing. They have nine different fishing boxes you can choose from that are personalized to different types of fishing. You can browse different subscription boxes for men here. Things like Birchbox Man, Dollar Shave Club, and Dollar Beard Club are the highest on my radar.
For some reason, cologne is the ultimate romantic gift for the holidays. My grandma used to buy my grandpa his favorite cologne each year for Christmas and he loved it! It’s a classic gift and it almost never goes wrong — just make sure you know what scents the man you’re shopping for likes and doesn’t like. My personal favorite is Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue. It’s a light, fresh scent that can be both sexy and casual. They offer it for women too.
4. Fandom-Related Items
Men can be pretty geek, so buying for their favorite fandom is a go-to when you don’t have any clue what to get them! He wouldn’t publicly admit it, but my boyfriend has hundreds of dollars invested in Harry Potter memorabilia (as do I) and he lights up every time he talks about it (and likes to boast that he has more wands than I do). Things like this Game of Thrones Monopoly game, this Lord of the Rings dagger (men love shiny, pointy things), or this Harry Potter Wizards Chess set are great ideas.
5. A New Wallet
One thing I’ve noticed that men don’t typically buy for themselves is a new wallet. Most men will try and wear out their current wallet until it’s mere fragments of what it used to be. This is why a new wallet makes a great gift! Buying him a nice, high-quality wallet doesn’t break the bank and it’s a nice gesture — plus, you’re getting him something he actually needs. This Fossil wallet is under $20 and made with 100% leather, so you can’t go wrong.
Buying clothes for your significant other is the ultimate win-win situation. Not only do you get an indirect say in what they wear, but they’re also totally down for some new clothes. Garrett on Facebook said, “Socks and underwear. Can never get enough socks or underwear.”
If you’re looking for something a little bit more dazzling, Hayden on Facebook said he loves receiving shoes. As long as you know their shoe size and style, you can find a pair perfect for them. Plus, there’s nothing else better than opening a brand new pair of shoes on Christmas morning. Buy him a new pair of Converse so that he can be both stylish and comfy, and rock a super classic look.
7. Sports/Concert Tickets
Both Alex and Robert commented on my Facebook saying they’d much rather do something than receive something. Buying them some concert or sports tickets or planning a fun date night — on your dime — would be both a good gift and a great bonding experience.
8. A Nice Shaving Kit
Another classic gift, shaving kits are the men’s equivalent to a woman’s spa kit. If your man likes a nice, clean-shaven face, try this high-quality shave kit. It comes complete with a safety razor, a badger hair brush, an alum block, a stainless steel shave bowl, shave soap, and five Astra razor blades. This is definitely something your man wouldn’t have already bought for himself, but he’ll love it once he uses it — the perfect gift!
Food, much like booze, is a man’s best friend. Make him his favorite holiday treats, or treat him to a super fancy dinner that you make yourself! If you’re not much of a chef, stop by your local bakery or specialty food store to get him a fresh, handmade (and edible) gift. If you’re looking to send him a surprise for his birthday, there are multiple food delivery services that offer gourmet gift baskets. Click here for a list of them.
10. Sexual Gifts
As Hayden pointed out via Facebook, sexual gifts for your significant other are an increasingly popular trend. This is a fun way to explore your likes and dislikes in bed… together. Like I emphasize in my podcast, spicing things up in the bedroom is a perfectly normal — and encouraged — thing to do! You can start with these low temperature candles to add a little heat this holiday season.
Let me know what you think of these ideas and definitely let me know if you decide to gift any of these to the special guy in your life! Tweet me @MiaReneeCole.
