‘Tis the season for cheesy Christmas movies, and fortunately Netflix has a wide variety this time of year for us to choose from! My current favorite hobby is cuddling up with my knitting and picking out the best looking Christmas movie while pretending that I don’t have any studying to do. In case you’re looking to do the same, I’m here to help. Here are my favorite Christmas movies available on Netflix right now!
1. White Christmas
A classic, White Christmas can’t be missed. There’s something magical about turning this on and drinking a hot drink while knitting (in my case). The music, the setting, the movie — everything — just kind of takes you back to a simpler, more magical time of Christmas.
2. A Christmas Prince
This Netflix Original has the vibes of a cheesy Christmas movie, but it actually has a really enthralling story-line and good acting! If you’re familiar with the TV show iZombie, then you’ll recognize the main actor, Rose McIver, as the aspiring journalist who falls in love with a scandalous European prince.
3. The Spirit of Christmas
This is another cheesy Christmas movie that has just enough cheese paired with an actually decent story-line and acting that doesn’t make you cringe too much. A different type of Christmas story, The Spirit of Christmas takes you on a journey of love between a woman and a ghost — yes, you heard me correctly. It’s got the perfect amount of spook (without being scary) and Christmas charm.
4. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
How could I not include this Jim Carrey classic? This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid and I enjoy it more and more every year!
5. A Christmas Kiss, A Christmas Kiss II, Merry Kissmas
I’m not 100% sure if the last movie is a continuation of the first two, but I’d be willing to bet that this is a trilogy! If you’re looking for some super cheesy, super predictable, super lovey-dovey movies, here ya go! They’re cute and can fill that cold void in your life that is your heart. They basically all follow the same story-line: a kiss is shared between two strangers in an elevator, with one stranger usually disguised in a holiday costume or mask for a party (in a A Cinderella Story-esque type of way). One of the strangers (usually the woman) then recognizes her special kiss, but he doesn’t recognize her. It’s all about falling in love from there!
6. 12 Dates of Christmas
This is another cheesy romance movie that you’ve got to check out. The main character, Kate, has to relive Christmas Eve over and over again going on a date with the same guy over and over again. Naturally, she falls in love with him while he’s re-meeting her each and every time. It’s a cute story with a happy ending, of course.
7. Naughty & Nice
Haylie Duff plays a radio DJ in this cute Christmas tale. When a big-shot DJ from Los Angeles comes to Duff’s small-town radio station, he struggles to fit in or get along with anyone. Over time, though, he and Duff’s character fall in love, but they only realize this right before he has to go back to LA! It’s cute and definitely nostalgic for those of us that loved Hilary and Haylie Duff back in the day.
8. A Very Murray Christmas
Bill Murray satirizes the popular celebrity Christmas specials from back in the day in this Netflix Original. Its dry humor is great for an adult party, and it’s the type of movie that really makes you appreciate Christmas. It includes guest stars like Michael Cera, George Clooney, Amy Poehler, and Miley Cyrus.
9. Fireplace for Your Home
Okay, so this technically isn’t a movie, but it’s a great screensaver for your television when you’re studying for exams, opening presents, sipping on spiked eggnog, or if you’re just looking to be extra bougie like me. There are plenty of different fireplace options available and most of them make a soft and romantic crackling sound that sends some warm shivers up and down your spine. It’s a great alternative if you don’t have an actual fireplace or wood stove in your home! (But, as a disclaimer, it doesn’t actually emit any heat!)
Bonus: Kitten Christmas Special (Amazon Prime)
So this isn’t on Netflix, but if you have Amazon Prime it’s a must-watch for any of you cat lovers out there (like me)! As the description says: “Each episode features kittens playing, meowing and generally looking adorable on Christmas themed set.” Aaaaand that’s basically it! It’s another great show to have on in the background for you, your family, or your guests’ amusement!
